Scaled Agile Framework

Scaled Agile Framework ® (SAFe) is a collection of techniques and concepts aimed at helping organisations to become more Agile.

The SAFe® framework helps companies adopt agile practices. It consists of a body of knowledge that encompasses structured guidance on responsibilities and roles, how to plan and manage work, and upholding appropriate values.

This structure is formed around three bodies of knowledge: agile software development, systems thinking, and lean product development. SAFe promotes alignment, collaboration, and delivery across multiple agile teams.

The first version of SAFe was developed and released in 2011, by veteran software professional and methodologist Dean Leffingwell. Starting as “The Agile Enterprise Big Picture” known as SAFe 1.0, the Scaled Agile Framework has evolved through multiple versions.

Each iteration of SAFe has been designed to address the needs of a changing marketplace while providing an adaptable framework that allows organizations to evolve with their customers’ ever-changing expectations of their products and services.

The four Core Values of SAFe represent the fundamental beliefs that are key to its effectiveness. They are:

  • Alignment
  • Built-in quality
  • Transparency
  • Program Execution

The Scaled Agile Framework’s principles are meant to inspire lean-agile decision making across functional and organisational boundaries and improve the company as a whole. The principles influence not just leaders and managers decision-making, but of everyone across the organisation; preparing people and their understanding to shift from traditional waterfall thinking to lean-agile thinking, where practices like Lean Portfolio Management are applied.

As organisations grow in size, SAFe provides a structured approach for scaling agile. There are four SAFe configurations to accommodate the level of scale: Essential SAFe, Large Solution SAFe, Portfolio SAFe, and Full SAFe.

Leading SAFe ® – Certified SAFe ® Agilist – Scaled Agile Framework for Enterprise

During this two-day course, attendees gain the knowledge necessary to lead a Lean-Agile enterprise by leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) and its underlying principles derived from Lean, systems thinking, Agile development, product development flow, and DevOps.

Participants in the class gain insights into mastering Business Agility in order to thrive in the competitive market. They discuss how to establish team and technical agility and organise and re-organize around the flow of value. They also learn and practice the skills for supporting and executing PI Planning events and coordinating multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs).

Explore the importance of adopting a customer-centric mindset and design thinking approach to agile product delivery. Learners also develop an understanding for implementing a Lean Portfolio Management function in their enterprise.

Attending the class prepares individuals to take the exam and become a Certified SAFe® Agilist.
