What are SEUs?

SEUs are Scrum Education Units.

They were created by the Scrum Alliance to foster continuous learning and reward Scrum Alliance members with benefits for investing in their self-development and professional progression.

1 SEU is equivalent to roughly 1 hour of investment in personal development.

If you read a Scrum related book, and the book takes you 8 hours to complete then you can make a note of it on the Scrum Alliance website and be awarded 8 SEUs.

If you attend a Scrum Alliance event, a conference, or a webinar you can also log these hours toward your Scrum Education Units.

It is a great way for you to track how much time and effort you are investing in your personal development and can be used as evidence in your peer reviews and appraisals.

Alternatively, they can also be used in your resume or interviews as a demonstration of your commitment to continuous learning and improvement within your career.

When you train as a Certified Scrum Master or Certified Scrum Product Owner, you are awarded a Scrum Alliance membership with login details to their website.

At each opportunity, you simply update your resume online as well as your Scrum Education Units to qualify for more advanced courses such as the Advanced Certified Scrum Master and Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner courses.

Scrum Alliance award you with a digital certification badge which appears in your LinkedIn profile and is available to companies who you are recruiting for as a potential employee or contractor.

So, in short, SEUs are validation of your scrum education and commitment to continuous improvement.
