How well does the CSPO course prepare you to be a product owner?

It prepares you very well. It is a 2-day course so you won’t be in the sphere of mastery, but you will be in a position where you understand Scrum and understand the role of a product owner within a scrum team.

The Certified Scrum Product Owner course is an entry-level course that introduces you to the concept of Scrum and walks you through the roles, events, and artefacts of Scrum.

You will understand the role of a scrum master in a scrum environment, and you will learn how the development team work to build products and services within a scrum framework.

The course will teach you about the value of having a product vision and how to create one.

It will teach you how to build a product roadmap and create a workable backlog of items for the development team to work from.

You will learn how a product owner prioritises a backlog of items and why it is super important that they do.

A product owner acts as the CEO of a product and manages all elements of product development in collaboration with a scrum master and development team.

The role requires that you work closely with customers and product stakeholders to make sure you are building a product or service that truly delights customers.

The CSPO course will give you the framework and the tools to do this and it introduces you to the importance of having conversations with stakeholders, customers, and the development team to ensure your product is being built in the most valuable way.

There isn’t enough time to teach you the advanced elements of product ownership so you’ll find that you have everything you need to become a product owner and start within the role, but you will need to invest time and effort in learning how to become an effective product owner.

Scrum is a collaborative framework so you’ll find that you are well supported by your team and will learn through your interaction and engagement with them.

After about a year in the role of a product owner, we would advise that you enroll for the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner course to further develop your skills and capabilities.

After 2 years in the role, you can enroll on the Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner course and once again, advance your skills and capabilities as a product owner.
