The Certified Scrum Product Owner course is a great place to start.
It is the entry-level course that introduces you to the scrum framework and helps you understand the purpose of the events, the roles, and the artefacts.
It’s the glue that brings it all together for you and helps you understand both the role of a product owner as well as how scrum masters and the development team integrate into a powerful unit for building products that delight customers.
Scrum helps solve complex problems in complex environments and as such, much of what you are attempting to do in a product ownership role is unknown until such time as the problem is solved or the product is created.
It is a super exciting role within the scrum environment, and it will take time for you to master the role. You will be well prepared for the role by doing the CSPO course but will find the first year to be a steep learning curve as you work through the role in a live environment.
Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner
After about a year in the role of a product owner, you are well prepared for the Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner course.
Also certified by the Scrum Alliance, the A-CSPO is designed to help you take your knowledge and skills to the next level.
The course is great for developing your product ownership skill set and preparing you for more responsibility as a global product owner.
In some cases, you will be working with more than one scrum development team and will have the tools and frameworks necessary to succeed in complex environments.
The A-CSPO course helps you straddle the role of product owner and coach within product ownership environments, and you’ll find yourself more able to help newbie product owners within their new role as a product owner.
You will also be more adept at working with the more complex elements of advanced product ownership and on your way to the professional level of product ownership.
Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner
A year after completing your Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner course you are well prepared for the Certified Scrum Professional Product Owner course.
You should have a minimum of 2 years working as a product owner in scrum environments and the course will meet you at the plateau of your current skillset and advance your knowledge and skills to the next level of product ownership.
You’re going to learn how to validate your product assumptions, learn how to have more advanced research and engagement with your customers, and master advanced product backlog management.
At this point, you’re well prepared to invest another year or two within a product ownership role before making a decision as to whether you want to advance as a consultant or a coach within the product owner space.
You can make the transition to Agile coach by investing in the Certified Team Coach and Certified Enterprise Agile Coach certifications or your focus on being a professional Product Owner that acts as part consultant and part practitioner.
We recommend the Scrum Alliance pathways as well as the IC Agile coaching pathways for future certification and career development. The Scrum Alliance is the oldest certification body within the Agile industry, but it is also the most progressive and demanding of the routes.
